Itinerary

After breakfast, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha, with departure planned for around 8:00 AM. From there, we drive to Simba Farm, where your cycling adventure begins.

Located in the West Kilimanjaro area, Simba Farm sits above extensive wheat and barley fields with wide views across the surrounding plains and Maasai lands. Originally known as Simba Estate, the farm dates back to the early 1900s and today operates as a working agricultural estate.

From Simba Farm, we begin our 34-kilometre ride towards TingaTinga and Olpopongi.

The first approximately 4 kilometres follow a smooth tarmac road towards Ngarenairobi town. From there, the route changes to gravel roads as we continue through the countryside towards the Maasai settlements around TingaTinga.

The TingaTinga area is home to Maasai communities whose traditional settlements, known as bomas, are scattered across the surrounding landscape.

As we cycle through the area, you will have the opportunity to experience a side of rural Tanzania that is far removed from the country’s busiest tourist routes. You may encounter Maasai herders going about their daily activities and see traditional livestock keeping as part of everyday life.

The landscape also offers opportunities for wildlife sightings. Keep an eye out for animals such as zebras, giraffes, antelope and, depending on conditions and location, other wildlife moving through the area.

After completing today’s ride, we arrive at Olpopongi Maasai Lodge, where you will spend the night.

The lodge provides an opportunity to learn more about Maasai traditions and customs and to explore the surrounding village area. In the evening, we will enjoy dinner before gathering around the campfire for stories and conversation.

Accommodation: Olpopongi Maasai Lodge
Distance: 34 km
Meals: Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast, we leave TingaTinga and continue our 40-kilometre cycling journey towards Sanya Juu.

The route takes us through expansive Maasai grazing plains and the open landscapes of Ngasurai. Along the way, we may meet local Maasai herders and experience the changing scenery of West Kilimanjaro.

On clear days, the route can provide spectacular views towards both Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, creating one of the most memorable parts of the ride.

The surrounding plains are also part of a wider wildlife landscape and movement corridor connecting areas between northern Tanzania and southern Kenya. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but the open terrain creates opportunities to see animals moving through the countryside.

During the ride, we pass near the Ngabobo Maasai market, a lively local trading point.

Depending on the day’s schedule and market activity, we can stop to stretch your legs, take photographs and experience the atmosphere of local trade.

It is a chance to see another side of everyday life in the communities around West Kilimanjaro.

Around the middle of the day’s ride, we stop for a scenic bush lunch.

Rather than eating at a conventional restaurant, you will have lunch surrounded by the open landscape, with the opportunity to take in the views and enjoy a break before continuing the ride.

After lunch, we continue cycling towards Sanya Juu, where our two-day West Kilimanjaro bike safari comes to an end.

From Sanya Juu, we arrange your transfer back to your accommodation in Moshi or Arusha.
